Assets of Community Value

Safeguarding our spaces: Assets of Community Value (AoCV)

What is an Asset of Community Value?

A special legal status granted by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council (Reference 7937, nominated by WGSPG) recognising that our local green spaces are vital to community wellbeing and recreation.

Why This Matters:

Buying Time: If a site is ever put up for sale, AoCV status triggers a pause or "community right to bid" period, giving local residents and the group time to put together a community purchase bid.

Planning Protection: Strengthens our local voice against inappropriate development by formally acknowledging how critical these spaces are to our daily lives.

What Sites have WGSPG Protected to date?

New Pond Farm Allotments
Paddock Allotments
New Pond Farm Recreation Ground
Lonesome Lane Recreation Ground
Countryside Commission Land

Addition 2027: Woodhatch Community Orchard.

How You Can Help:

AoCV’s run on a 5-year cycle and require regular renewal.

Get Involved: Sign up as a group member! Showing broad community support and active local membership is a vital requirement for successfully establishing and renewing AoCV’s with the council.
